Our Impact

World-Leading Independent Climate Science

Berkeley Earth’s work stands at the forefront of climate and data science, with Robert Rohde and Zeke Hausfather leading groundbreaking research in climate data analysis and modeling. Their work has significantly advanced the understanding of global temperature trends and the role of human influence on climate change, shaping policies and inspiring global action. Through their leadership, Berkeley Earth continues to push the boundaries of data-driven climate science.warming conversation.

Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature Data Set

Berkeley Earth’s open-source climate datasets are an essentially, widely-recognized resource for academics, policymakers, and researchers worldwide, with our upcoming high-resolution dataset set to offer the highest resolution available. Recognized and referenced by the IPCC, our datasets are cited over 400 times annually in academic research, underscoring their impact and reliability. By making this data freely accessible, Berkeley Earth continues to lead global efforts in advancing climate science and supporting data-driven climate action

The World’s Only Source for Searchable Historic Air Pollution Data

Recognizing air quality as a pressing public health concern, we launched the world’s only searchable historic air pollution data in 2014. Our air pollution map contains the world’s largest database of searchable, historic air pollution data, as well as providing real-time snapshots of AQI, PM2.5 concentrations, and other air quality indicators worldwide.

A Trusted Source for Leading Climate Journalism

Berkeley Earth is a leading voice in science communications,  driving the global discourse through open communication and transparency. With over 15,000 media mentions annually, including the New York Times, Washington Post, and Bloomberg, our work reaches audiences worldwide, fostering informed discussions on climate change and its impacts. By providing accessible data and expert insights, Berkeley Earth continues to lead the way in elevating public understanding and action on climate issues.

Making Climate and Data Science Accessible

Our commitment to accessibility shines through in initiatives like the Skeptics Guide to Climate Change, which addresses common objections in a clear, evidence-based manner. Innovative projects, such as couture pieces inspired by our data and user-friendly guides transform complex climate issues into relatable, impactful stories. Find out more below.

Berkeley Earth’s Skeptics Guide to Climate Change has long provided clear and accessible insights into climate science, helping to address common misconceptions and foster informed discussions. While the science has progressed since it’s creation in 2014, , it remains a valuable resource that continues to offer foundational explanations for understanding the complexities of climate change

Berkeley Earth makes our surface temperature data set accessible on Kaggle, providing students of data science with valuable resources to explore and analyze real-world climate trends and contribute to the global understanding of climate change.

In collaboration with fashion designer Emma Viedma and the World Wildlife Fund Paraguay, our data visualizations inspired The Global Warming Collection. This couture line aims to raise awareness about global warming and was recognized by Fast Company as a World Changing Idea in March 2022. Discover The Global Warming Collection.
