On Monday, August 9th, the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) published the AR6 Climate Change 2021: The Physical Science Basis report, outlining the contributions of the IPCC’s Working Group I to the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6).

The Working Group I report outlines and summarizes the findings of a global panel of climate scientists regarding the physical basis underlying the current state of climate change. These findings, including input from Berkeley Earth, among other sources, will then form the foundation for the IPCC’s overall Synthesis Report for the Sixth Assessment, including additional assessments of the socio-economic, ecological, and policy considerations related to climate change. Publication of the final AR6 Synthesis Report (SYR) is expected in early 2022.

This year’s Sixth Assessment will mark the first time that a global climate change report of this magnitude has been compiled since the IPCC’s Fifth Assessment in 2014.
This year’s assessment cycle will publish in advance of the UN’s COP26 Climate Change Conference in November, making today’s report an essential and much-anticipated review of the state of global warming.
